Title: ESTATE AGENTS SPEAK OUT OVER NOISY NEIGHBOURS

One in three estate agents have lost out on a house sale after noisy or anti-social neighbours put off potential buyers, according to new research by HIP provider Geodesys.

The investigation – released to coincide with Noise Action Week (May 19-23) – found that 32 per cent of agents blamed loud music and televisions, blazing rows, or boisterous children for deals falling through.

Geodesys, part of Anglian Water, interviewed 100 agents across the east of England.

And the study also revealed that inconsiderate neighbours are more likely to deter someone signing on the dotted line than a property’s poor decorative state, rising damp, or a lack of available land on which to extend.

Only a small garden (or no garden at all) and an undesirable kitchen / bathroom were said to be more off-putting.

Geodesys’ Head of Sales & Marketing Patsy Day, said: “Noisy neighbours are clearly a primary consideration for homebuyers, and many estate agents have been left cursing rowdy occupants of adjacent properties for dashing potential sales.”

A reported one in 10 Brits is regularly annoyed by noise from their neighbours. And given that the issue is expected to worsen, the National Society for Clean Air and Environmental Protection (NSCA) – the group behind Noise Action Week – has planned a series of events to draw attention to the problem.
